Prayer for Remembrance Sunday

We remember Lord, we remember:

Today heavenly Father

We remember ships tossed in the air by explosions,

We remember men, our friends, falling beside us . . .

We remember telegrams coming to the doors of our neighbours,

Husbands taken from loving arms never to return;

Sons who were feared for every day.

We remember a lot, we remember . . .

.

Loving Father -

Help us in our memories;

Ease us in the pain of them, without causing us to forget.

Lord God – we remember the costs,

But remind us too of the victory -

of what was won by our comrades and by fellow countrymen;

.

And finally Lord God -

Be with all those who are facing war this day -

Our men and women at sea, on land and in the air.

Be with the rulers of this world, may their hearts be opened by you and their eyes see the error of their ways.

Be with all the world’s citizens, and Father God may none of us forget the costs of war

May we learn and live the way of peace with justice.

 .

All this we ask in the name of Jesus.

 AMEN

Newport Carer’s Support Group

Carers Contact hold a Coffee Morning for carers / cared for.  It is held on the last Thursday of every month from 10.00am until 12 noon.  We can give support and information on a variety of subjects. We want to hear your problems. Come and tell us what services you require as a carer, the problems you are having and what would make a difference to you in your caring role. We want to pass your voice forward. We hope to have speakers on the subjects you would like and activities for you to join in with. Come and make new friends. So if you can spare some time we look forward to you joining us. Together we can make a difference. For further information, contact Sue Tonge on 01633 258376 or Email: susan.tonge@newport.gov.ukvisit www.newport.gov.uk/carers

Mobilizing Faith-Based Volunteers

Leaders of Newport’s Faith Communities and Governing Authorities are cordially invited to a brief but informative meeting on Wednesday 12th November 2008, 12.00 noon – 1.30 pm, at Duckpool Road Baptist Church, 54 Duckpool Road, Newport (lunch provided – donations welcome).  Both parties have aspirations for serving the welfare of our citizens and the meeting seeks a new level of cooperative action and expediency to enable this.

Gweini’s John M. Evans, Strategic Director and author of the “Wales Faith Audit“, along with Jim Stewart, Policy Director, will be presenting the findings specifically for Newport.  The report shows the high level of service currently afforded by faith-based volunteers; it also highlights that considerably more will be achieved as parties increase collaboration.  Faith-based communities constitute a potential army of volunteers who are willing, dedicated and compassionate, but who need training, leadership and resources to get better mobilized.

We will also brooch the possibility of  STREET PASTORS for Newport.

If you intend to come to the meeting kindly e-mail or telephone to confirm your attendance. (Tel: 01633 677881 / Email: church@duckpool.org)
